Many fire service professionals fear the use of social media at the department level, dreading the negativity associated with the world of social media. The presentation will provide information on the usefulness of social media in marketing a department, and providing a narrative of positivity and progress associated with a department. A sometimes humorous review of both positive and detrimental posts from social media sites will be presented for discussion. The speaker will present the story of how his department has successfully utilized social media platforms to educate the community, share department success stories, recognize employee accomplishments, build trust within a combination system, and solicit community support.
