Tracks: AREMA Technical Sessions By Date- Communications & Signals, AREMA Technical Sessions By Functional Group- Communications & Signals, Technical Sessions By Day- Tuesday

This paper will address the history, theory of operation, technical considerations, and safety benefits of lidar based proximity warning system. History – Explain the reason for a proximity warning system to be used in hyrail work equipment. Theory of Operation – Describe the proposed operation of proximity warning system, including some basic anomalies (for example curves, wayside equipment, workers, etc). Technical Considerations – Make the audience aware of some key considerations, including: type of lidar sensors, audio alarms, visual display, work mode vs travel mode, etc. Safety Benefits – Make note of the improved safety for hyrail work equipment using a lidar proximity warning system (for example, detecting distance between equipment, detection of equipment vs workers, rules enforcement, reduction in collisions, etc). *Missed this Session or want to view it again?
