Tracks: Regulatory Compliance, Advocacy and Community

The Coachella Valley city of Desert Hot Springs (DHS) was on the verge of bankruptcy for many years. DHS embraced the cannabis business and was featured in a CNBC special as California's first city to permit the commercial cultivation of marijuana in 2014. When adult-use cannabis became legal in California in 2018, the city council again recognized the opportunity before them and quickly enacted regulations to further encourage commercial cannabis development. Today, the city is in excellent fiscal health, enjoys a lowered crime rate, increasing population and just broke ground on a new City Hall! How can entrepreneurs and local regulators convince stakeholders that cannabis can revitalize a local economy – and community? Join Greta Carter and Ryan Fingerhut of Highroad Consulting, veterans of the legal cannabis industry, plus a representative from the city of DHS, to learn how you can set up your cannabis business and community for success. Through this case study and panel, explore the role of the cannabis industry in one city’s revitalization and get a list of actions you can take to help regulators and cannabis entrepreneurs work together better in yours.
