Maintaining effective practices and sustaining systemic improvement requires strategic succession planning in many different ways. School boards and superintendents are best positioned to develop long-term plans for transitions that will occur in key leadership roles over time. Readying for these inevitable challenges is a hallmark of recent work in the Chippewa Falls Area and Holmen school districts. The superintendents and board leaders will explain the planning process, the tools they used and the ways in which they communicated with each other and stakeholders to be ready for changes without heightening anxiety.
