This talk will provide a brief history of the clearcoat protectant category of online car wash offerings. It will start at the beginning of waxes and protectants in the car wash industry and move to the latest innovations. There will be technical references to the key ingredients used throughout the history of these coating products back in the early 1970s and progress through various innovations including polymer protectants, hot waxes, and now the new category of ceramic coatings. Examples and comparisons of durability and shine will be provided to show how the industry continues to innovate and improve what is possible to offer at professional car wash in the modern day.
