E37 - Intergenerational Communities: A New Building Typology for an Inclusive Future (Room Meeting Room 4)

This session offers a conceptual idea for a new building typology that introduces a housing model considerate of economics as well as social and cultural inclusion. Multigenerational living is considered standard for many parts of the world, yet existing urban models in the U.S. are lacking, from both an economic and cultural standpoint. Presenters will explore historic and current examples of multigenerational living in which their firm is currently engaged with clients and share their testimony. They will discuss the opportunities and challenges presented when designing for a wider demographic, both generationally and culturally. Considering the COVID-19 experience, housing models also need to deliver independence, individuality, and the integration of the health and wellness spectrum.
