An increase in the frequency and intensity of flood disasters is happening. The past 16 years since Hurricane Katrina have seen an increase in massive disasters as well as increased design rainfalls for many regions of the U.S. For example, three straight years of > 100-year floods in Houston, ending with Harvey in 2017, is a clear indication of the problem. This talk will address both the causes and the ultimate mitigation of such massive flooding, both in coastal and inland regions.
