Speaker(s): Robert Boudwin
Robert Boudwin was better known for 21 years as the creator and sole performer of Houston Rockets mascot, “Clutch the Bear,” a character that was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006 (yes there is such a place!). This talk will be pulling back the curtain for a behind-the-scenes look at sports entertainment and one of the most successful worldwide mascot brands to have ever been created. Whether traveling the world — performing in 12 different countries, including 10 separate trips to China and Armed Forces Entertainment Tours to Kosovo, Bosnia, and England — or 6,000 local appearances, 2,000 of them hour-long elementary school shows, you will see that being a professional mascot is a lot more than just rubbing bald heads and shooting silly string. Think about running a half-marathon in a teddy bear costume three separate years to promote organ donation registration!
