Broad theme: No matter how smart you might sound “on paper,” that doesn’t always translate aloud. Some people may be experts in their fields, but verbally presenting this expertise to an audience can be a nightmare. Many individuals report public speaking as their ultimate fear. Debilitating communication apprehension is not uncommon, and there are ways to manage it and boost your confidence if you’re willing to put forth the effort to face your fears and mindfully practice your public speaking skills. Objectives: Listeners will learn about the causes of public speaking anxiety and ways to manage communication apprehension. Subtopics: We’ll address anxiety-inducing situations, management techniques, and “warm-up” exercises to prepare for public speaking events.
