All NFPA combustible dust standards now retroactively require a dust hazard analysis to be performed. Because of the complexity and technical nature of a DHA, facilities often focus on performing it – and ignore the process behind it. In addition, too many facilities focus on the cost of an analysis rather than the qualifications and systematic processes involved in completing a good DHA. In this session, we’ll discuss the minimum elements of an effective DHA and how it can be used to mitigate fire and explosion hazards using cost-effective methods. We’ll identify common mistakes and how to identify bad DHAs that miss hazards and increase mitigation costs.
