Integrating Hazard Evaluation Techniques into Job Hazard Analyses (Room 26 AB)

A job hazard analysis focuses on job tasks to identify hazards before the hazards impact workers. It reflects the relationship between the worker, the task, the tools and the work environment. The traditional JHA involves a tabletop review of a procedure and/or a walkthrough of a task with the identification of hazards and one-to-one assignment of controls. In this session, we’ll discuss why the use of hazard evaluation techniques such as relative ranking, cause-consequence pairing, what-if/checklists and HAZOP improves the effectiveness of JHAs. You’ll learn how the completion of the process hazards analysis (PrHA) for OSHA Process Safety Management can be integrated into the JHA process through use of more sophisticated hazard evaluation techniques.
