Quality Optimization of Hot-Dip Galvanized Strip Using Model Predictive Control (Room 402)

Over the past decade, Tata Steel Netherlands has developed a non-linear model predictive temperature controller for its continuous annealing and hot-dip galvanizing lines. The controller has demonstrated its capability to increase productivity, improve temperature accuracy and reduce energy consumption. In order to take the next step toward product quality control, the controller is linked to a material property model so that the predicted process temperatures can be directly translated into projected final product properties. This enables the rectification of product quality deviations that may result from prior processing steps, and thus further increases overall product quality and homogeneity of product properties.
