Rotating Lance Tip - An Evolution and Revolution in the Blowing Process for Steel Refining in BOF (Room 318)

The present paper, developed from studies in cold model, presents a revolutionary concept: a lance tip with rotation in its final portion and cooled from the isentropic transformation of the gas properties. Compared to a traditional lance tip, the results show great opportunities for industry gains: stability in the decarburization basin, great homogenization of the bath, reduction in the height of droplets ejected from the bath and greater penetration. The results suggest the need to adjust the lances away from the bath, thus preserving the fragility of rotating equipment exposed to the highs of the steel refining process.
