Key Attributes to Consider for Optimum Fracture and Fatigue Performance of API Grade Pipeline Steels in Gaseous Hydrogen Applications (Room 402)

In general, fracture and fatigue performance of API-grade pipeline steels degrade in the presence of pressurized hydrogen gas. Similarly, various through-thickness microstructural characteristics correlate with the degradation in mechanical properties. However, there are key microstructural attributes and evaluation methods as it relates to fracture and fatigue performance in gaseous hydrogen that can be used as guides to identify these through-thickness microstructural characteristics that yield stable or improved fracture and fatigue performance with increasing hydrogen pressure. This paper will tie in microstructural evaluation methods that can be used as guides to fracture and fatigue performance in gaseous hydrogen applications.
