In today’s fast-paced manufacturing environment, equipment turnaround time can significantly impact a producer’s bottom line. In the case of electric steelmaking, reducing furnace downtime can provide the advantage necessary for maintaining competitiveness in the market. The current study addresses the development of a novel electric arc furnace hearth material that offers advantages with ease of installation while maximizing performance and keeping costs low. To achieve this, existing technologies proven over the past several decades have been combined and carefully refined to result in a novel new approach, keeping furnaces in service and employees safe.
