Research on Tundish Capacity Expansion and Process Optimization of Single-Strand Slab Caster

Through the internal structure design, process parameter optimization, and industrial test verification of the expansion of the single-strand slab continuous casting tundish, the tundish capacity was increased from about 25 tons to 38 tons; the overflow capacity reached 42 tons; and the molten steel depth of the tundish reached 1,100 mm. The buffer time for replacing the ladle is increased from the longest of 0.7-1.2 minutes before the expansion to 3.0-3.5 minutes. Inside the tundish, the remaining molten steel in casting is reduced from 11.5 tons (8-14 tons) to 6 tons. The qualified rate of inclusions in steel ≤2.0 in the unstable casting state is increased from 88.6% to 95.3%.
