Stamp charging enables cokemakers to improve charge bulk density (BD) for better coke quality. Improvement in BD results in proximity of coal particles during softening, leading to stronger bond between the coke cells. A new method is developed to estimate the BD for individual oven based on the amount of coke discharged, which is monitored by load cells in coke dry quenching bucket lifting crane. Based on actual coal moisture, volatiles in coal and coke, density is estimated. With visibility of the BD of each oven, better process control is possible to achieve consistent coke quality as well as oven performance.
