Big River Steel and Systems Spray-Cooled have successfully installed and commissioned new Spray-Cooled™ equipment for Phase 2, which included the electric arc furnace (EAF) roof, elbow, sidewall, D1, dropout chamber and offgas duct. Big River Steel’s decision to furnish the Phase 2 EAF with a spray-cooled offgas duct and dropout chamber was based on the efficiency of spray-cooled technology to achieve the required exit gas temperature with a significantly less hot face area of the offgas duct. This paper will review and compare the Phase 2 spray-cooled offgas duct and dropout chamber with the Phase 1 tubular offgas duct and dropout chamber.
