Lifetime-Extended Steel Mill Rollers Produced by Laser Cladding (Room 307)

Rollers in the steel mill are subject to extreme wear and, depending on the type of rollers, also to high-temperature corrosion. Under given conditions, monolithic economic steel rolls provide only limited lifetime. One possibility for extending the lifetime of such rollers lies within the application of wear- and corrosion-resistant coatings. This presentation will focus on the utilization of the LaserBonds® laser cladding process as a surfacing technology, which allows the economic production of surface engineered rollers in the steel mill industry and the increase in lifetime that can be achieved.
