Billets produced at the continuous casting machine are cut into the required length using a torch cutting machine. As a part of the cutting process, burr is left behind at the bottom face of the billets. This burr is not desired at mills as it reduces the yield and effect productivity by causing stoppage of mills due to cobble. The available technology of deburring was not effective in the present system. New technology using oxygen cutting was developed in-house at a low cost and installed in the existing billet cutting system to remove burr using oxygen. The issue of burr was eliminated.
