This paper presents a solution for fully automatic bucket handling by a charging crane in ABS meltshop, Italy. The presentation will cover the new technologies used to ensure a safety pick-up of the scrap bucket from transfer cars, and consequently its deposit. Additionally, the technologies for the meltshop machines' remote driving and supervision are discussed, comparing them to previously adopted technologies. The paper will also cover the safety features included to allow the fully automated execution of the charging cycle.
