During the ladle steel refining process, several chemical reactions occur due to the species exchange between steel and slag, including both desulfurization and re-oxidation. These lead to the alteration of element composition and formation or decomposition of oxides inclusions within the steel. A 3D computational fluid dynamics model is built to investigate the chemical reactions to optimize the refining methods and improve steel quality. The model uses the Eulerian-Eulerian multi-phase model, with the species transport model used to simulate the species mass fraction in steel. A user-defined function file is developed to calculate reaction rates and remove species.
