Modern Fluid Power Safety Controls for the Steel Industry (Room 404)

Pneumatic and hydraulic controls are widely used throughout the steel industry due to their high reliability and suitability to the extreme environments present in many applications. When modern safety systems are implemented on new or updated equipment, the sophisticated electrical controls of safety programmable logic controllers are utilized to provide fail-safe control systems. Pneumatic and hydraulic safety devices provide the output safety function to meet current ANSI and ISO standards for machine safety. OSHA accepts these control reliable systems for use as alternative measures for production related activities. This presentation reviews applications using modern safety systems for lockout and alternative measures.
