Improving Tail-End Stability in a Hot Strip Finishing Mill (Room 306)

16 May 22
4:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Tracks: Hot Sheet Rolling

Stability of thin strips during deformation in the hot strip finishing mill is a critical factor to control. Several improvements related to tail-end control were performed in the hot strip mill at Usiminas Ipatinga, optimizing process parameters aimed at decreasing tail crash occurrences. The main topics of this development are work roll crown optimization, the creation of a new tail strip tracking dynamic control system, and improvements on process control. The main achievements of this work are reduced tail crashing/ripped tails events, production interruptions, work roll consumption, cobble events, rejects due pincher, bruises and interventions on target gauge.
