A mathematical model was developed to investigate the influence of flow modifier on fluid flow pattern, wall shear stress and inclusion removal in a two-strand tundish. A baffle with upward holes effectively eliminated the short-circuiting and smoothed the steel flow in the outlet zone. The six RTD indexes and inclusion removal rate were both greatly increased. A turbulence inhibitor decreased the velocity at the free surface, thereby lowering the possibility of slag entrapment. Meanwhile, the maximum flow-induced shear stress at the rear wall near the ladle shroud was decreased, while the inclusion removal was significantly promoted.
