Blast furnace demands during taphole plugging continuously challenge refractory suppliers to develop innovative solutions tailored to individual tapholes of individual blast furnaces. This paper presents taphole clay solutions implemented in blast furnaces, focusing on safety, operational stability and hearth wall preservation. Innovative technologies have been developed for special applications such as: consecutive taps, crack sealing, hot spots, taphole length recovery and ecofriendly refractories in addition to continuous improvement of materials for standard applications. The implementation of these taphole clays in the market have contributed to better blast furnace operation and campaign extension for customers.
