Addressing Operating Cost, Productivity and Emissions Challenges Associated With Dirty, Oily Scrap at Metalfer Steel Mill, Serbia (Room 320)

Dirty, oily scrap leading to heavy CO and H2 emissions is always problematic and a real challenge for many steelmakers. Tenova’s intelligent electric arc furnace solutions, NextGen® hybrid/extractive offgas analysis and comprehensive process control models, were employed to optimize and dynamically control the chemical injection system and successfully lower CO emissions and fume system heat load, while achieving outstanding performance results for increased productivity and reduced electrical (10%), natural gas (30%) and power-on time. Despite Covid-19 limitations, project results will show how Tenova’s Industry 4.0-compliant technology enabled an effective remote internet-based support for installation and process optimization for Metalfer Steel Mill, Serbia.
