Role of Microstructure and Texture Synergy on Low-Temperature Toughness of Heavy-Gauge Line Pipe Steels (Room 402)

With the increasing demand for using line pipes in harsh service environments, much research has been devoted to developing heavy-gauge pipe steels with improved low-temperature toughness. Alloying and thermomechanical processing affect both microstructure and texture. There is still a lack of understanding of the joint effects of microstructure and texture on toughness and strength. As the pipe gauge becomes heavier, the through-thickness microstructure heterogeneity plays an additional role in mechanical properties. Here, different roughing and finishing conditions were applied to generate a series of microstructures and textures in X70 line pipe steels and their synergic effects on toughness was investigated.
