Experience With Operation and Maintenance of the Spray-Cooled EAF Roof at Ovako Hofors (Room 403)

In order to increase the availability and safety of its 100 mton electric arc furnace (EAF), the Swedish steel producer Ovako Hofors decided to replace its tubular water-cooled EAF roof with a spray-cooled roof. The EAF roof and the auxiliary equipment were successfully installed and commissioned in 2018. The spray-cooled technology has now been in operation for four years. The first rebuild of the hot-face was completed during the spring of 2021. The paper will both describe the project, but also the Ovako Hofors experience coming from the operation and maintenance of the equipment during the last 4 years of being in service.
