Continuous Developments of Usiminas Ipatinga Steel Works 1 Through Slagless Clean Up® Technology (Room 318)

New results concerning post-combustion lance to clean the converter top cone refractory at Usiminas Steel Works 1 are presented. The intent, to guarantee and develop operational stability of the blowing stage, was to start the development in the oxygen lance by Slagless Clean Up® technology. The targets were: better slag formation, reduce lance skulls, reduce skulls in the gas recovery ducts, increase lance availability increasing life, and keep converter mouth in good condition for hot metal and scrap charges. The Slagless Clean Up technology reached a long life with 1,770 heats.
