Scrap Supply Chains and Residual Impacts: Benchmarking Price Implications Today and Into the Future (Room 406)

This paper will seek to benchmark the relationship between the portion of residuals in scrap (principally copper) and prices for select steel grades. It updates a Yalamanchili et al. 1999 paper that was one of the first to offer a quantitative metric for this relationship. The paper will rely principally on a literature review and interviews with scrap suppliers and steelmakers; it will also contain original analysis on how residual quantities in the scrap supply chain and scrap prices could change into the future given certain trends.
