Automating the Uniformity Tuning Process for Forge and Heat Treat Furnaces (Room 407)

Combustion system tuning methods to achieve temperature uniformity are slow and inefficient. The system of equations governing an industrial furnace’s heat distribution are non-linear and underdetermined. Today’s tuning methodology makes manual adjustments to individual components. Due to the non-linearity of furnace systems, this approach is flawed. Each independent tuning adjustment will have incidental downstream effects on the rest of the system. Through the novel use of a temperature mapping algorithm, we can linearize any furnace's system of equations so that its temperature distribution can be resolved through simultaneous adjustments. This improves both the speed and accuracy of the tuning process.
