The Critical Role of Abrasives in Blast Cleaning
This session will focus on steel abrasives, their characteristics, durability indicators and application in blast cleaning machines. Abrasives play a critical role in finishing operations. This is often ignored by the end user until operating costs start raising alarms. Abrasives should be durable and at the same time transmit energy to clean in an efficient manner. This presentation will connect the role of abrasives to the different maintenance aspects of blast equipment. It will also include machine inspection in terms of discharge of good abrasive to trash and machine settings to prevent this from happening, setting of blast patterns so that the abrasive can be utilized to clean the part and not impact machine surfaces directly, maintenance of a healthy operating mix and means to check regularly. A template for calculating operating costs will also be presented in this session.
