What’s the marker or benchmark for organizational maturity? Many in the safety profession say it’s an ISO 45001 certificate – the “gold standard” of management system certification. Others, though, may say that a reduction in injury rates or maintenance of “zero” is the marker. Still others may say that a feeling, not a defined result, is the indicator of progress. The results of a qualitative analysis of standards were turned into a series of questions that has comprised the Safety Maturity Index. Deployment of the index has yielded over 330,000 quantitative data points that has led to further refinement of the tool – and lessons learned. In this session, we’ll discuss how the tool and organizational maturity support safety and health performance – linking actions to direct and defined outcomes.
