Critical Incidents Happen: Is Your Response Plan Designed to Support Your Employees’ Mental Health and Wellbeing (Room 332)

In high-risk environments, the injury response plan is designed to guide organizations in detecting, responding to and recovering from events that threaten employee safety. But, how well are we preparing for the psychological impact of such incidents? Too often, response protocols focus primarily on physical harm, leaving the mental toll unaddressed. Research shows that trauma-exposed employees frequently feel unprepared to manage the psychological aftermath, with little guidance on coping strategies and under-equipped leaders to support them. This gap extends to safety professionals: Although responsible for protecting others, they’re equally vulnerable to trauma. Without adequate tools and training, they may struggle to lead effectively during and after critical incidents. In this session, you’ll learn how expanding preparedness to include psychological resilience strengthens workforces and leadership.
