The Human Side of Safety Technology: Insights from the Frontline (Room 339)

As interest grows in emerging technologies for musculoskeletal disorder prevention, safety professionals often lead adoption efforts – but frontline worker perspectives are not well understood. Given the critical role of worker buy-in, their perspectives should be considered when making decisions around the use of technology. This session shares findings from a survey of 405 frontline workers who have used MSD prevention technologies such as wearable sensors; computer vision; robots/cobots; exoskeletons; extended, virtual or augmented reality; and digital twins. You’ll learn about these technologies’ perceived effect on physical comfort, mental stress and job satisfaction. Results are presented by demographics and technology type, offering a nuanced view of excitement, concerns and perceived benefits of using safety technology for MSD prevention. You’ll leave with key insights on inclusive, effective safety technology implementation strategies.
