Board Development
School boards today are navigating complex decisions in environments shaped by financial pressures, community expectations and increased public scrutiny. This session draws on dissertation research conducted in the Kenosha Unified School District to examine how school boards make decisions in practice and how those decisions are communicated and understood by the public. Using real-world examples from board meetings, district documents and stakeholder perspectives, the session highlights common patterns in agenda-setting, use of data and public engagement. Participants will explore practical strategies to improve meeting clarity, strengthen communication and build trust across communities. The session is designed to be nonpartisan and applicable to districts of all sizes, with specific attention to challenges and opportunities facing school districts in today's dynamic educational environment.
