From Shortage to Strength: Building a Grow-Your-Own Teacher Education Program (Room 202 A/B)

Four years ago, the Hortonville Area School District faced a shortage of qualified applicants for special education positions. Committed to maintaining high-quality programming, the district turned to an existing strength—Hortonville High School’s Family and Consumer Science Educational Pathway. High school students now serve as interns and classroom helpers in special education settings, gaining hands-on experience while supporting teachers and students. With intentional training and mentorship, the program ensures that high standards remain in place.
