Appleton Area School District's Path to Innovation and Change (Room 102 A/B)

When the Appleton Area School District went to referendum in 2022, the primary goal was to expand, renovate and reposition their existing schools so sixth graders could move to the middle schools, creating space at the elementary level. A key element of the referendum was the creation of a new elementary school — Sandy Slope — the district’s first new school in 30 years. Sandy Slope, which was intended to increase capacity in one of the district’s growing areas, gave them an opportunity to review their existing educational pedagogy and delivery model and then set new standards. Explore how the district reimagined educational delivery using Sandy Slope as the catalyst and share the full story, including how their task force/committee was created to both inform Sandy Slope's design and help the district understand and prioritize their students’ and staff’s contemporary needs.
