As broadband networks evolve to support exponential data demand, traditional access architectures are reaching their limits. This session explores how next-generation coherent optics are transforming the outside plant (OSP) or access network—bringing transport-level performance into our last mile. Attendees will discover how innovations such as Coherent PON (CPON), full-duplex (FDX) coherent optics, and multi-wavelength transmission are enabling unprecedented capacity—delivering 100 Gbps per wavelength, scaling up to 48 wavelengths per fiber, and achieving 200 Gbps FDX performance. Beyond capacity, the session examines the convergence of optical networking and artificial intelligence (AI), highlighting how AI-driven networks are evolving to detect, diagnose, and self-heal outages in real time. These advancements are laying the foundation for future applications such as immersive 360° virtual reality (VR), holographic communications, and AI-native services. This session provides a forward-looking view of how coherent optics and intelligent automation are redefining the architecture, performance, and resilience of next-generation broadband networks.
