Under the direction of the research arm of the US EPA Office of Water, and in partnership with interested water systems, emerging non-invasive technologies are being evaluated as a possible solution to identify water service lines. This presentation will discuss a promising electromagnetic induction technology, and its science, history, key attributes, limitations, costs, as well as practical implementation in the context of requirements in the LCRI. Key considerations for primacy agencies and public water systems who are considering approving/implementing such technology will be discussed with a focus on data resulting from an EPA funded pilot study conducted at three Oklahoma water systems.
