Tracks: Workforce Development

In many small communities, administrative professionals such as clerks play a vital role in utility sustainability. They are often responsible for managing utility budgeting, billing, collections, scheduling, hiring, and compliance reporting. This session focuses on an innovative initiative led by the Rural Community Assistance Partnership (RCAP) in partnership with Water Finance Assistance and others to provide leadership and management training and a certificate to these admins. This is the first certificate program for administrative professionals serving the water sector. The session will describe the motivation for focusing on administrative professionals, explain the process for identifying the what administrative professionals need to know to be successful, identify the wide range of tasks that administrative professionals lead in small communities, report on the training opportunities for administrative professionals, and define long-term goals of the initiative.
