This session presents a practical, “good, better, best” approach to meter reading and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) that helps utilities under 5,000 services select the right solution for their system today while planning for tomorrow. Attendees will review three deployment paths using Xylem’s Sensus technology: AMR for improving meter reading efficiency; AMI level performance without upfront network infrastructure; and full AMI performance through primary licensed radio frequency for the highest reliability and long term scalability. Through real world utility scenarios, participants will learn how each option supports billing accuracy, leak detection, labor savings, and system growth. The session emphasizes practical decision making, cost considerations, and how utilities can modernize at their own pace while maintaining a clear upgrade path as needs and funding evolve.
