From AI to ROI: Using Artificial Intelligence with Continuous Monitoring to Find Leaks Faster (Room 128 A&B)

North America’s water infrastructure is aging, leading to increasing issues with water loss and leaks that often go unreported. This presentation explores a different approach to managing water loss that combines acoustic readings, continuous pressure monitoring, anomoly detection combined with machine learning. Unlike other platforms that provide a snapshot of leak noise, having a layered approach can help identify issues earlier, and reduce false positives. Using a hydrophone-based sensor and pressure sensor installed in the lower valve assembly of a fire hydrant, the solution allows for year round deployment without interring with the normal operation of the fire hydrant in all types of pipe material. The case studies will showcase different examples of leaks, water theft, and discuss real-world implementation strategies.
