This presentation builds on foundational water chemistry to explore the critical roles of sanitation and oxidation in maintaining healthy pool and spa water. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how primary sanitizers (such as chlorine and bromine) function to control pathogens, as well as how oxidation processes help eliminate organic contaminants and other waterborne wastes. The session will examine the balance between sanitizer demand, breakpoint chlorination, and the use of supplemental oxidizers. Attendees will also learn to recognize signs of inadequate sanitation or oxidation and apply practical strategies to optimize water quality, clarity, and safety in both routine and high-demand conditions.
