2027 Pool & Spa Show

Legal Issues Related to Temporary & Seasonal Employees of Pool/Spa Companies

For many pool and spa businesses in the Northeast, the calendar drives the workforce. When the season ramps up, so does hiring — and with it come a host of legal obligations that are easy to overlook.   This session translates the employment laws for seasonal and temporary staffing into plain-language, actionable guidance built specifically for the pool and spa industry.  This session gives pool and spa businesses a practical, plain-language roadmap to the employment issues that arise when a season-driven workforce ramps up and winds down.   Across three focused segments, attendees will learn how to hire seasonal and temporary employees the right way (compliant offer letters, at-will language, rehire practices, and how seasonal status affects benefits, leave, and unemployment), keep employees compliant with FLSA and State wage and hour rules (overtime, travel time, and off-the-clock work), and how to protect their hard-earned customer relationships when seasonal workers come and go (such as through non-compete and non-solicitation agreements). The goal is to leave every attendee with concrete tools and a clear sense of where the real risk lies. Rather than an academic survey of employment law, this is a working session designed to help pool and spa companies tighten up their hiring documents, payroll practices, and restrictive covenants.
