Improve Building Security and Manage Risk: Best Practices for Anti-Terrorism Security (Room Salt Palace, Room 250 DE)

Does your facility attract attention or include operations that make it a potential target for a terrorist attack? Are you interested in protecting your facility from liability claims from an act of terrorism? To help reduce exposure to terrorism and assist facility owners in seeking SAFETY Act protections for commercial office space, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) in partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), has developed a set of best practices for anti-terrorism security (BPATS) for commercial office buildings and an online evaluation tool. This session will discuss how the BPATS and evaluation process work, the SAFETY Act program and how to integrate BPATS when applying for coverage, and the experiences of a commercial property owner using the BPATS on their properties.
