Virtualizing the CMTS: Progress and Current Events (Room 225-227)

As traditionally hardware-centric appliances transform into software-based equivalents, the Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS) is an increasing target. This workshop delves into the drivers, progress and state of the vCMTS. The session will focus on the real-world experiences and lessons learned deploying a vCMTS in a distributed access architecture (DAA), including how to handle IEEE-1588 timing over aware and unaware networks, supporting legacy services such as video and out-of-band signaling, operational aspects necessary to field-deploy DAA such as leakage and upstream spectrum usage, and streaming telemetry vs. legacy monitoring techniques.
