Tracks: Knowledge HUB - Energy Storage and Grid Issues
The U.S. is home to more than 40 pumped storage hydro facilities ranging from 40 MW to 3,000 MW. Many of these facilities were built from 1960 to 1990 and are approaching their first or second major overhaul. These major overhauls present a significant opportunity to add flexible functionality and enhanced capability that will benefit the future operation of both the energy storage facility and the interconnected grid that was not contemplated when the units were originally designed and installed. This session will highlight several of these opportunities and touch on examples where they are implemented or being implemented.
