In 2018, San Diego Gas & Electric, a utility with 3.6 million customers, celebrated its safest quarter in the company’s history. IBEW member participation in SDG&E’s Safety Culture Change Initiative played an important role in this achievement. The network of safety culture teams is a natural vehicle for fostering the principles of safety and quality inherent in the IBEW’s new Code of Excellence Program. Safety culture teams encourage key values of the Code of Excellence: to build and project positive attitudes about the IBEW members and the work they do.
